The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has invited Dr. Walter Buchanan to serve as a member of its study committee for the project, “Status, Role, and Needs of Engineering Technology in the United States.
Buchanan is a professor in the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution at Texas A&M University.
The 18-month National Science Foundation-funded consensus study will review the production and employment of engineering technologies and technicians in the United States; gather available data and explore private- and public-sector employer perceptions regarding the adequacy of the supply of engineering technologists and technicians as well as the appropriateness of the knowledge and skills they bring to the workplace; and describe the characteristics of U.S. engineering technology education programs.
Buchanan joined the Texas A&M engineering faculty in 2005. Prior to that he was a professor at Northeastern University (1999-2005), and the Oregon Institute of Technology (1996-99). He has also been an associate professor at Middle Tennessee State University (1995-96) and an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida (1993-95) and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
