BakerRisk, Bakers endow fellowship in mechanical engineering

Quentin and Jana Baker of San Antonio and BakerRisk have endowed a fellowship in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

This gift, with matching funds provided by the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station's Turbomachinery Laboratory, creates the BakerRisk/Quentin and Jana Baker Fellowship, funded through the Texas A&M Foundation. The fellowship will provide one or more graduate fellowships to full-time students pursuing graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, with a preference given to students working in combustion sciences.

Quentin Baker, Class of 1978, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and is president of Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants Inc. For nearly 30 years, BakerRisk has provided quality engineering, R&D, investigation and field-testing services to industries and government agencies handling explosive, flammable and toxic materials. The company was recognized among the 2009 Aggie 100, the 100 fastest growing Aggie-owned or Aggie-led businesses in the world.

“The Bakers were very pleased to know that the dollar value of their generous gift was actually doubled through this matching gift program,” said Diane Barron, director of development for mechanical engineering with the Texas A&M Foundation. “Their gift will have significant impacts on this critical discipline.”
