Magdalini LagoudasMagda Lagoudas, director of Engineering Academic and Student Affairs, was honored with the Advisor of the Year Award by the Division of Student Affairs for 2012-2013.

The award was presented to Lagoudas at the Division of Student Affairs awards ceremony May 1.

Lagoudas was nominated for the award by the Texas A&M University chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

“I am honored to receive the Advisor of the Year Award,” Lagoudas said. “I have been working with the Society of Women Engineers for three years and I am amazed by the range of programs they are able to support throughout the year.”

According to the SWE national website, the organization’s aim is to stimulate women’s achievement in engineering careers and promote diversity in the male-dominated field.

“These programs provide SWE officers with great opportunities to develop leadership roles that will serve them well in their professional career,” Lagoudas said. “I have enjoyed serving as their advisor and I greatly appreciate all they do for our college.”

Lagoudas received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, and her master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University. She joined Engineering Academic and Student Affairs as director in 2010.

The Advisor of the Year Award is presented annually to advisors of registered student organizations who go above and beyond the required duties of organizational advising. Recipients of the advisor awards received $100 toward the organization they advise and SWE received $100 in their Student Organization Finance Center account.
