Three petroleum engineering students win in SPE regional paper contest

Three Aggie petroleum engineering students placed in the Society of Petroleum Engineering Gulf Coast Region Student Paper Contest April 21 at Lou­isiana State University.

Manuel Cossio placed first in the Master of Science division and will represent Texas A&M at the International Student Paper Contest at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exposition this fall. Leo Lasecki placed second in the Bachelor of Science division. Morteza Khoda­bakhshi placed third in the Ph.D. division.

Undergraduate Erin Bergeron, master's student Pongsathorn Lerlertpakdee and Ph.D. student Jiang Xie also participated in the contest.

Texas A&M, LSU and the University of Texas at Austin tied in the number of overall winners, with each university receiving one first place, one second place and one third place each. Students from Texas Tech University and the University of Houston also participated in the contest, but did not place.

Faculty and staff members Tom Blasingame, George Moridis, Eduardo Gildin, Akhil Datta-Gupta, Mike King, John Lee, Duane McVay, Behnam Jafarpour and Darla-Jean Weatherford helped the students prepare for the contest.
