Engineering faculty, staff to receive AFS Distinguished Achievement Awards

Three Texas A&M Engineering faculty members and one staff member are among 24 recipients of the 2012 Distinguished Achievement Awards.

Texas A&M University and The Association of Former Students announced the recipients March 29. Among the honorees are Dr. Mahmoud El-Halwagi and Dr. Yue Kuo from the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering; Dr. Timothy Jacobs from the Department of Mechanical Engineering; and Fidel Fernandez from the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

El-Halwagi and Jacobs are being recognized for teaching, while Kuo is recognized for research. Fernandez is being recognized in the student relations category.

The university-level Distinguished Achievement Awards were first presented in 1955 and have since been awarded to 930 professionals (including this year’s recipients) who have exhibited the highest standards of excellence at Texas A&M.

The 2012 Distinguished Achievement Awards will be formally presented at 1:30 p.m. April 25 during ceremonies in Rudder Theater on campus. In recognition of their achievements, each recipient will receive a $4,000 cash gift, an engraved watch and a commemorative plaque.
