Reddy receives honorary doctorate, career and lifetime achievement awards

Professor J.N. Reddy, center, received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal.Dr. J.N. Reddy, Distinguished Professor and the Wyatt Chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, received an honorary doctorate degree (Honoris Causa) by the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, during a public ceremony. In introducing Reddy for the honorary degree, Professor Fernando Ramoa Ribeiro, Rector of the Technical University of Lisbon, said that the honorary degree is conferred in recognition of Professor Reddy's original and sustained contributions to education, research and professional service, and their profound impact on scientific community in Portugal.Additionally, Reddy was honored with the ACE-X Award for Career Achievements at the 4th International Conference on Advanced Computational Engineering and Experimenting (ACE-X 2010) in Paris in July 2010, where he presented the opening plenary lecture, "Least-Squared Finite Element Technology in Fluid Dynamics and Structural Mechanics."Reddy was also honored for Lifetime Achievements in Composite Materials at the Annual Technical Meeting of the American Society of Composites, where several sessions in honor of Professor Reddy were organized. The shear deformation plate and shell theories of composite materials that Reddy developed and bear his name are well known and finite element models he developed have been implemented into commercial finite element commercial software like ABAQUS and NISA.
