Aggie-founded company named Best Place to Work

CAPSHER Technology, a software consulting company founded and run by Texas Aggies, was named one of the Best Places to Work in Texas for 2010.This award recognizes the organization for its work environment, employee commitment, and opportunity for growth.The company was founded in 1994 by Kay Capps, '82 and '85, and Kevin Sherry. Capps earned bachelor's degrees in computer science and industrial distribution from Texas A&M.Early on Capps and Sherry began employing Aggie students as part-time workers, an approach that still keeps them connected to the university and provides a constant influx of talent and ideas. Most CAPSHER employees hold a bachelor's or advanced degree from Texas A&M.The enjoyable, relaxed company culture at CAPSHER helped the company earn the Best Places designation. The company hosted 12 social events last year, including a trip to see the Harlem Globetrotters at Reed Arena, a pool party at the Bryan Aquatic Center, a picnic, and golf tournament. What makes the company shine, according to employee feedback, is that managers value people as individuals and create an environment that feels like a family."We want our employees to work hard, but to have fun doing it," said CEO Capps. Companies from across the state were evaluated on their workplace policies, practices and demographics. Employees completed surveys to measure the employee experience.
