Admission Deadlines

For consideration for fall admittance, refer to the following guidelines and application deadlines. To be considered for funding, the complete application must be received as early as possible for fall admission. As application decisions are made on a rolling basis, it is advisable to complete and submit applications as early as possible.

The documents and information required for applying are listed below. When reviewing applications, all components are taken into consideration by the admissions committee. Please see the Consideration for Admission page for more details regarding items to include in your resume and statement of purpose. Note: Transcripts are required to initiate review of your application. 

Submit the following through www.applytexas.org.

  1. Online Application – Be sure to select the appropriate degree program and confirm that you are applying to the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Application Fee  may be paid by check, money order or approved credit card. For more information, visit the Office of Admissions.
  3. Statement of Purpose

Approximately 48-72 hours after submitting your ApplyTexas applications, you will receive an email containing your Universal Identification Number (UIN). This email will contain certain instructions on how to access the Applicant Information System (AIS). The following portions of your application will be completed in AIS.

  1. Department Data Sheet – Complete this as soon as possible. Your application will not be visible to the department until this is completed.
  2. Official Transcripts  Transcripts from all colleges or universities attended are required (except from Texas A&M University). Scanned or electronic copies of your transcript can be uploaded in AIS for application review. If admitted, you will be required to submit original official transcripts to the Office of Admissions.
  3. Test scores  Required test scores should be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to Texas A&M University
    • GRE: Must have a test date within 5 years of the date the application reaches the Office of Admissions. Use code 6003 for reporting GRE scores (no department code needed)
    • For international students, Proof of English Language Proficiency is required. This can be accomplished in several ways. Please visit http://admissions.tamu.edu/international/graduate for details. 
  4. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation  Submitted through AIS and the Letter of Recommendation Request System by entering the email addresses of the individuals you wish to recommend you.
  5. Resume/CV  Uploaded in AIS

Once application documents have been received by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the application will be considered complete and sent for review. There is no official timeline for review. Students with application questions may email mechanical-gradprogram@tamu.edu.
