Admission Deadlines

For consideration for fall admittance, refer to the following guidelines and application deadlines. It is strongly recommended to submit your applications as early as possible. The preferred recommended deadline for complete applications to be received is between December 20 and January 15. As application decisions are made on a rolling basis, it is advisable to complete and submit applications as early as possible, especially for prospective M.S. and Ph.D. students who want to be considered for funding.

The documents and information required for applying are listed below.

  2. Statement of Purpose
  3. GRE scores
  4. All university transcripts
  5. Resume
  6. Three letters of recommendation

Guidelines for Acceptance Into the Graduate Programs

When reviewing applications all components of the application are taken into consideration by the admissions committee.  However, the below guidelines are examples of the qualities we look for in applicants.  Please note that these are not required and applicants missing one or more of these criteria will still be evaluated for admission.

  1. Recommended GPA of 3.5 or higher
  2. Recommended Quantitative GRE score of 158 or higher
  3. Statement of Purpose, which should include the following information:
    • A brief description of you, your background, and interest in mechanical engineering
    • An explanation as to your motivation for selecting Texas A&M University and your chosen degree program
    • The names of specific faculty you are interested in working with and why (MS and PhD only)
    • Any other information you think will assist our admissions committee in reviewing your application
  4. Professional resume or CV, which should concisely communicate the remaining criteria on which you will be evaluated, including:
    • Specific coursework completed
    • Engineering industry or professional experience
    • Research experience
    • Professional service (eg. participation and/or leadership in professional organizations and STEM outreach programs, teaching/mentoring experience)
    • Professional communications (eg. posters, conference presentations, authorship on publications, proceedings, books, and patent applications)
    • Awards and honors

Students who wish to transfer into the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program from another graduate program within Texas A&M University should read over the Transfer Policy.

 

Additional Guidelines for International Applicants

  1. For international students who wish to apply, proficiency in English must be verified in one of the following ways:
    • Required Verbal GRE score of 146 or higher.
    • Required composite TOEFL score of 80 or higher.  The IELTS is also accepted.
  2. The University does not consider a three year international bachelor’s degree equivalent to a U.S. degree. Students must complete a one-year master’s program in addition to the three-year bachelor’s degree before they can be considered for a graduate program at Texas A&M.
