Entry to a Major

Undergraduates are accepted into the materials science and engineering major through the College of Engineering's entry-to-a-major processing, typically during their first or second academic years.  Current entry-to-a-major guidelines are provided here.

All departments utilize the following information in making decisions about entry to a particular major:

  • College academic performance
  • Co-curricular activities since enrolling at Texas A&M
  • Statement of purpose identifying the reasons for selecting a particular major
  • Outstanding achievements that are notable for the department(s) to consider
  • Additional information identifying other factors that are relevant to the academic performance

Students are encouraged to talk to advisors in the materials science and engineering department about their application to the program. Click here to contact an advisor.
