O'Neal, a 1954 mechanical engineering graduate of Texas A&M University, and Helps International — a Dallas-based nonprofit organization working in Guatemala — were honored as runners-up for the internationally renowned Ashden Award for designing and manufacturing a cooking stove that has radically transformed the lives of thousands of families in Guatemala as well as helping to curb deforestation.
