| What is the FE exam? |
| The FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam is the first exam in the
process to become a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) This exam
is offered twice each year (April and October), and most students take
the exam right before graduation, while the technical information they've
studied is still fresh in their minds. Once this exam has been passed,
you are classified as an intern, also known as Engineering Intern (EI)
or Engineer-in-Training (EIT). Additional information on Engineering
Licensure can be found on the NCEES
Website. |
| |
| Why should I take the FE
exam? |
- Right to publicly represent yourself as an engineer
- Opportunity to work as a consultant
- Recognition that you have the necessary academic and professional
experience to practice in the engineering profession
- Once registered by the exam, you can usually obtain, by reciprocity,
the right to practice in other states
- Added value to you in the job market
|
| Who can take the FE exam? |
- You must be registered in (or graduated from) an ABET (Accreditation
Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering
or engineering technology program (All engineering
and engineering technology programs at Texas A&M are accredited)
- Seniors within one year of graduation (May and
August graduates are eligible)
- Computer Science and IDIS Majors are not eligible to sit for
the FE exam
- Recommendation: Since FE exam is offered at
A&M in the Fall and the Spring, only December graduates should
take the Fall exam
