Floudas Scholarship

Dr. Christodoulos A. Floudas Graduate Fellowship

Give to the Dr. Christodoulos A. Floudas Graduate Fellowship

This Graduate Fellowship is given in memory of Dr. Christodoulos A. Floudas by his friends and family.  Dr. Floudas, the Earl Nye ’59 Chair Professor for Engineering Excellence and Professor of Chemical Engineering, was the Director of the Texas A&M Energy Institute and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

In August 2016, the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University lost a true visionary of the field when Dr. Christodoulos "Chris" A. Floudas passed away while on vacation in Greece with his family.

Floudas, the Earl Nye '59 Chair Professor for Engineering Excellence in the chemical engineering department, was a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Texas A&M University Institute for Advanced Study (TIAS) Fellow and Eminent Scholar, an American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Fellow, a Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Fellow, a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens.

Floudas was instrumental in the growth of both the Energy Institute and the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M. Floudas took the helm as the director of the Energy Institute on Feb. 1, 2015. During his 18 months as director, the Energy Institute took a prominent position in two major U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) initiatives. The number of faculty affiliates of the Energy Institute also grew significantly during Floudas’ time as director, growing from around 70 associated faculty members, to more than 245.

Prior to joining Texas A&M, Floudas spent nearly 30 years at Princeton University.

To honor the legacy of Dr. Floudas, the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering has established a graduate fellowship in his name. The Dr. Christodoulos A. Floudas Graduate Fellowship is designed to prepare chemical engineers for leadership roles in industry, academia, or government, and will be awarded to a student pursuing a graduate degree in the department.
