About the Area

Located only 30 minutes from Beijing by high-speed train, Tianjin is China's sixth-largest municipality, boasting a population of more than 11 million.

Although 40 percent of Tianjin's total area is dedicated to farmland, the municipality remains an important industrial base with major industries including petrochemical, textiles, automotive, mechanical and metalworking.

The architecturally rich area features numerous attractions, including the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall.

Tianjin University, established in 1895 with the name of "Peiyang University," is the first educational institution of higher learning in China. More than 1,800 students attend its School of Chemical Engineering where they receive instruction from 300 faculty members.
