How to Apply

Admission Deadlines

For consideration for admittance, refer to the following guidelines and application deadlines. Students are encouraged to apply by December 1 to be nominated for fellowships. Students will be considered for graduate assistantships until the below deadlines.  Please note that because decisions are made on a rolling basis, we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible.

The documents and information required for applying are listed below. When reviewing applications all components of the application are taken into consideration by the admissions committee.  Please see the Consideration for Admission page for more details regarding items to include in your resume and statement of purpose.

  1. Application – located at www.applytexas.org.  Be sure to select the appropriate degree program and confirm that you are applying to the Department of Biomedical Engineering and not Biomedical Sciences.
  2. Application Fee - may be paid by check, money order or approved credit card. For more information, visit the Office of Admissions.
  3. Statement of Purpose – submitted on www.applytexas.org.
  4. Transcripts – Unofficial transcripts are accepted for the purposes of admission and funding consideration and can be uploaded through the Applicant Information System (AIS).  If admitted, official transcripts will be required and must be sent directly to the Office of Admissions in a sealed envelope. For more information on what constitutes an official transcript, please visit Office of Admissions.
  5. Test scores - must be sent to Data and Research Services (DARS) at Texas A&M University. The GRE is mandatory for all students. TOEFL/IELTS scores are required for international students with a GRE-Verbal score less than 146. When requesting for ETS to send your GRE scores, you will use Texas A&M’s institutional code of 6003. You do not need a departmental code when sending scores.
  6. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation – may be submitted in the following manners:
    • Electronically through AIS, a system to which you gain access once you have submitted an application and receive a UIN (48-72 hours after your application is officially submitted).
    • Emailed directly from the recommender to bmen@tamu.edu, and signed on official letterhead. We would prefer that you utilize this option only if your recommenders are having trouble submitting through AIS or if there is not enough time to mail the letter. If this option is done, they must include the Graduate Recommendation Form with their letter.
    • In hard copy format and mailed directly to our department along with the Graduate Recommendation Form.
  7. Resume/CV – may be submitted in the following manners:
    • Electronically through AIS as a “Resume”
    • Electronically emailed to bmen@tamu.edu

Once all of these documents have been received by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the application will be considered complete and sent for review.  There is no official timeline for review.  Students seeking a status update may email bmen@tamu.edu.
