Dr. Joseph A. Schetz holds the Fred D. Durham Chair in Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech. He received a B.S. from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and his M.S.E., M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University.
His research interests cover high-speed flow, aircraft aerodynamics and design, and experimental and theoretical fluid dynamics. Schetz is the author of three books and over 350 refereed papers. He has received major research and literature awards from professional societies and is a Life Fellow of AIAA and ASME and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Seventy-two doctoral students and a larger number of master's students have completed degrees under his supervision. They now occupy important positions at NASA and other government agencies, industry and academic institutions.
