More than 20 percent of Texas A&M students receive scholarship support. In addition to giving students the extra money and time they need to excel in their studies, scholarship programs help the university recruit top students. The criteria for recipient selection varies for each individual scholarship. A minimum 2.75 GPA is required for all scholarships unless stated differently in the individual scholarship criteria descriptions.

Aerospace Engineering Advisory Board Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of multiple members of the Aerospace Engineering Department's External Advisory Board. 


Student must be entering (or in) their junior year of study in the Aerospace Engineering Department at Texas A&M University.

Scholarship is made possible by funds provided by former students and friends of the department.

Joanne K. and Edward "Pete" Aldridge '60 Endowed Scholarship

The Endowed Scholarship was established to promote and encourage students interested in careers in the aeronautics and astronautics professions to receive their education at Texas A&M University.  The scholarship is named after Edward C. “Pete” Aldridge, Jr., an aeronautical engineering graduate of Texas A&M and his wife, Joanne K. Aldridge.  

Donor Information

After graduating from Texas A&M in 1960, Mr. Aldridge went on to received a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and entered the aerospace industry specializing in missiles and space technology. Throughout his professional career, Mr. Aldridge has served in leadership positions in the aerospace industry and government.  He became the Under Secretary of the Air Force in 1981, responsible for integrating Air Force space programs as well as being the Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, the organization tasked with the development and operation of classified reconnaissance satellites.  During this period he was also in astronaut training, but that training ended after the Challenger accident.  In 1986, he was named by President Reagan as the Secretary of the Air Force.  From 1992 to 2001, Mr. Aldridge was also President and Chief Executive Officer of The Aerospace Corporation, a space systems engineering company.  Upon his retirement from that organization President George W. Bush appointed him as the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics), responsible for the acquisition and support of advanced weapon systems.  Mr. Aldridge retired from government service in 2003, and currently serves on three corporate boards.

He has been honored at Texas A&M as a Distinguished Alumnus, the Distinguished Aerospace Engineering Alumnus, the College of Engineering Honor Alumnus, and Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor.

Mr. Aldridge has said that any successes in his life and career can be directly attributable to his education and leadership training he received at Texas A&M.  His desire is to provide that same opportunity to other aerospace engineering students at Texas A&M who might otherwise lack the resources to achieve their desires.


Applicant must be a full-time student in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. 

AIAA Outstanding Member Scholarship

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics was created in 1963 to promote professionalism among those involved in the art, science, and technology of aeronautics and astronautics. The Texas A&M University AIAA Student Chapter extends this mission statement to include promoting leadership, fellowship, and education for anyone who has an interest in the aerospace industry through student participation. 


Awarded to a student who actively participates in the TAMU Chapter and exemplifies the goals of the Chapter.

Rockwell Collins Scholarship


  • Awarded to a high achieving undergraduate student in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University.
  • Must be at least sophomore-level standing.
  • Must have GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The recipient of this scholarship also serves as an ambassador for Rockwell Collins.

Michael Stephen Ebanks Aerospace Memorial Scholarship

Established to honor Michael Ebanks, a freshman Aerospace Engineering student who was one of the twelve killed when Bonfire collapsed November 18, 1999, this scholarship recognizes an undergraduate student in Aerospace Engineering. 

Donor Information

Michael Stephen Ebanks was born on October 26, 1980, and grew up in Carrollton, Texas, graduating from Newman Smith High School in June 1999.  From a very young age he was highly interested in anything that flew – airplanes, rockets of any type.  He attended U. S. Space Camp twice.  He attended the Air Academy of the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and returned to the huge annual EAA fly-in there two more summers, where he also has the honor of having been added to EAA’s Memorial Wall at the fly-in site.  Michael was a hard-working young man who held multiple part-time jobs in order to fund one of his fondest dreams: to obtain his private pilot’s license.  He did earn this license in October 1997, one day after his 17th birthday. Michael was admitted to Texas A & M in the fall of 1999 as an Aerospace Engineering major to fulfill one of his other fond dreams – to follow in the footsteps of his late older brother, Keith (Gerald Keith Ebanks, Jr., ’89).  His enthusiasm for Aerospace and Texas A & M was cut tragically short when he was one of the twelve who died in the Aggie Bonfire collapse on November 18, 1999.  Michael’s family is highly honored that the Aerospace Engineering Department has established this annual scholarship in his name.

Mary Ann and Gordon Gibson '55 Scholarship in Aerospace Engineering


Awarded to a full-time student in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University.

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; freshmen must be in the top 25% of their high school graduation class.
  • U.S. and Texas resident.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills.
  • Participation in recognized University activities or organizations.

Patrick A. and Carol J. Gibson Scholarship in Aerospace Engineering

This two year scholarship is given to a junior and senior student pursuing their undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering.

Donor Information

Carol and Patrick Gibson grew up in the same part of Dallas and both graduated from Bryan Adams High School. Pat applied to the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (changed to Texas A&M University while he was there) and was accepted as an Aeronautical Engineering student.  He entered the all male school and was a cadet in the compulsory Corps of Cadets. Pat was one of 66 freshmen that entered Squadron 8 the fall of 1961, all of them were engineering majors.  He was Commanding Officer of Squadron 8 his senior year, as well as a member of the Ross Volunteers and Sigma Gamma Tau.

Pat graduated the spring of 1965, married Carol, and started a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering at A&M.  He had a department assistantship and Carol worked for the Counseling and Testing Department  His thesis was "Critical Mechanical Properties of Highly Filled Elastomers".  The highly filled elastomer was solid rocket propellant.

After graduating in the summer of 1966, Pat went to work for GD'Convair at Cape Canaveral, launching the Atlas-Centaur rocket, followed by working for Bell Helicopter in Ft Worth as a Flight Test Engineer. He then went into sales and worked 8 years for Lord Manufacturing, a manufacturer of bonded rubber-to-metal products.  The last 32 years were spent working with Blair Engineering in Dallas, selling a variety of mechanical/electro-mechanical products.  Pat retired the end of 2009.

Carol and Pat have 2 sons, one a graduate of A&M, the other of NTSU.  They live in Fairview, just north of Dallas.  Pat is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and a pilot, and they both enjoy traveling.

Carol and Pat gave the money for these scholarships because:

  • "We have a love of Texas A&M and my/our time there.  I have many lifetime friendships started there.  For example, 5 of us have had a quarterly lunch the past 20+ years."
  • "My education at Texas A&M provided me the tools to make a comfortable living all these years and now have a comfortable retirement."

Travis and Rachel Joiner Memorial Scholarship

Established through the generosity of many donors to honor the memory of Travis Joiner, an aerospace senior, and his sister, Rachel, a geology student, who we lost in 2009. 


Awarded to a full-time student in good standing pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M.  Preference goes to a senior interested in space.

Larry J. McQuien '76 "Take Flight Award"

This scholarship recognizes a student in the top 15% of the junior class of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M. The recipient of this prominent award will receive a scholarship in the amount of $5,000.


  • Junior in the top 15% of his/her class.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities.
  • Active participation in extracurricular activities.

In addition to the scholarship application, you will need to submit a one-page essay addressing the following two questions:

  1. Who was Larry J. McQuien, and what significant contributions did he make to the Aerospace Industry?
  2. What are my aspirations and expected future contributions to the field of Aerospace Engineering?

Charles R. Overly '46 Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Bob Overly in memory of his brother, Charles R. Overly, who received his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M.

Susan D. and John E. Richardson '71 Scholarship


  • Full-time junior or senior student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M

  • Preference to a legal U.S. resident.

Virginia and Buford W. Shipley, Jr. '83 Scholarship


Awarded to a student in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering. Preference goes to students who graduated from Longview High School in Longview, TX.

Benjamin R. and Deanna J. Smith Scholarship in Aerospace Engineering

This two-year scholarship is given to an undergraduate student in Aerospace Engineering.


  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • U.S. Resident.
  • Recipient shall demonstrate a true and intuitive fascination with the challenges of technical aerospace engineering.

Leland Snow Memorial Scholarship in Aerospace Engineering

This scholarship honors the memory of Leland Snow, Texas A&M Class of '52, founder and President of Air Tractor, Inc.  Leland Snow built a 53-year legacy of aircraft design and innovations that ushered in the era of the modern agricultural spray plane.   

Donor Information

Born in 1930, Leland Snow started building model airplanes at the age of six, and while in high school in Harlingen, he was given a job washing and fueling airplanes in return for flying time.  He soloed on his 16th birthday. Before he graduated Texas A&M University in 1952 in the Department of Aeronautical (Aerospace) Engineering, Mr. Snow became involved in a special project to design and build a new agricultural aircraft. This aircraft would have increased payload and performance but would eliminate the vices that attended so many gallant Stearman biplanes, the standard crop-dusting planes built for training in the 1930's. His continuing dreams and innovative achievements resulted in a position of being owner of the largest agricultural aircraft company in the world, Air Tractor, Inc.  Air Tractor has outlived both the Cessna and Piper in the agricultural plane market and is currently the world's largest producer of such aircraft.  Leland Snow was inducted into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame in 2000, and was awarded the Distinguished Aerospace Engineering Alumni award at Texas A&M in 2013.

  • Interest in design with demonstrated academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities.

Scholarship Timeline

  • October 15, 2017- Application process opens.
  • February 1, 2018 - Applications are due by 5:00 P.M. and a resume must be submitted.
  • Mid-March, 2018 - Scholarship Recipients are announced.
  • End of March, 2018 - Deadline for recipients to deliver thank-you letter for donors with addressed, stamped envelope to HRBB 750B.
  • April 2018 - Annual Aerospace Awards Banquet. Attendance is mandatory for scholarship recipients.

If you are selected for a scholarship, you must attend the Annual Aerospace Awards banquet in April. The application is now part of the University Scholarship Application. In addition to the online application, students are required to send a resume and supporting statement to be considered for AERO scholarships. Please include your name and scholarship resume in the subject line of the email (email address is within the University Scholarship Application). Several scholarships will be considered with respect to this application. Each scholarship has its own criteria including financial need, scholastic achievement, and extracurricular activities.
