FOUNDATION CLUSTERS FOR ENGINEERS (FCEN)

FCEN Description

Foundation Clusters for Engineers (FCEN) are special groupings of courses offered for the students in engineering enrolled in the first year of the curricula. The intent of the cluster offerings is to aid students in proceeding toward their degree. Studies conducted on the Texas A&M University campus, as well as at other leading institutions, have found that:

  • students in clustered courses are retained in engineering better than the non-clustered students
  • students in clustered sections tend to form a more cohesive learning community that results in improved abilities with the material in the courses
  • students in the clustered courses tend to make more rapid progress toward degree completion

These schedules are provided to assist students and advisors in selecting courses that fit with the FCEN clusters offered. If there are any inconsistencies, the times and courses listed by the registrar on SIMS should be considered the official record. Please notify the Engineering Student Services and Academic Programs office (essap@tamu.edu) if any errors or inconsistencies are found.
